Former NCAA swimmer and Outkick contributor Riley Gaines has made headlines following the news that some media credential requests for WNBA games won’t be fulfilled. Gaines referenced a recent incident involving Brittney Griner during a game against the Indiana Fever, mentioning how unexpected certain reactions can be in sports.
“You can interpret what Griner might have said for yourself,” Gaines remarked, adding that she isn’t sure of Griner’s words but pointed out that asking her directly is an option which seems overlooked. It’s interesting how social media users speculate about these moments, especially when the audio is missing from the video.
According to reports, Outkick requested credentials for at least two games this season involving the Atlanta Dream. These requests were denied for both the game against the Los Angeles Sparks and a match up on Friday. The response from the Connecticut Sun cited limited space, prioritizing outlets that had consistently covered the team in previous seasons.
Gaines briefly touched on an ongoing WNBA investigation into reported racist remarks directed at Angel Reese during a recent game, emphasizing Outkick’s prior success in acquiring credentials. She observed, “I’ve never had trouble securing credentials in a professional sports league before; suddenly, it seems things have changed.” Despite the setbacks, Gaines affirmed that Outkick will continue to raise challenging questions with persistence.
In another development, Fox News Digital also sought to cover the upcoming game, but their request was also not approved due to a missed deadline.
