Musk suggests forming ‘The American Party’ following argument with Trump

Elon Musk proposed the idea of a new political party on Friday, drawing attention to a recent conversation about President Trump and a significant bill.

On Thursday, he initiated a poll on the social media platform X, which he owns, to gauge whether a new political faction might be necessary for upcoming candidates.

“People voiced their opinions. In America, we need a new political party to represent the 80% of the central government!” he shared.

Musk also suggested possible names for this group, highlighting the term “American Party.”

His critique of Trump arose from concerns about the proposal that could increase the national debt by $4 trillion.

The billionaire argued that this move would undermine efforts to improve government efficiency and curb spending.

Conversely, Trump remarked that Musk’s issues seemed to stem more from the electric vehicle incentives rather than the bill’s other aspects.

Trump mentioned, “Elon understood the bill’s inner workings better than most here,” implying Musk had previously shown no objections.

“His concerns appeared only after he realized we needed to scale back EV mandates,” Trump added during a press briefing.

Despite their disagreements, Musk—a former White House adviser during Trump’s administration—urged for Trump to be replaced by his own vice president. Trump has questioned Musk’s motives for speaking out after leaving his role.

“I have no problem with opposition, but this should have happened months ago. This bill is one of the largest Congress has seen: a record $1.6 trillion cut and the biggest tax reduction ever,” Trump noted.

Musk expressed that he believes a successful Republican trifecta in the upcoming elections would capture the presidency, along with majorities in both the House and Senate.

“Without my involvement, Trump risks losing the election, Dems would control the House, and Republicans would barely hold a 51-49 edge in the Senate,” Musk stated.

He highlighted a sense of dissatisfaction among the electorate.

Florida Republican Rep. Jimmy Patronis expressed skepticism about Musk’s intentions to create an “American Party,” suggesting that the two would eventually end up aligning again.

Patronis commented on Newnation, “Elon Musk isn’t going to start a new political party. Trump knows it’s common to part ways with those you trust. It happens in DC all the time. Just wait and see.”
