Jeff Bezos Shuts Down Fifth Avenue for Furniture Delivery
It seems like a Prime advantage, perhaps.
A surprising video that made its rounds on TikTok captured the scene as Fifth Avenue was temporarily closed for a substantial delivery to Jeff Bezos’ expansive penthouse.
Large pieces of furniture dangled from a crane, resembling last week’s remnants, slowly rising above the intersection of Fifth and 26th Avenue.
As the items neared the top of the 24-story building at 212 Fifth Avenue, a number of workers were directing traffic, mingling with onlookers.
Raffial Slanian, who owns Thompson Ferrier, a luxury candle brand, caught the attention of cameras on Saturday.
“Want to see how Jeff Bezos moves his furniture? Well, take a look,” Slanian, whose office is just down the block, remarked.
“I think we can all relate to this somehow,” he quipped.
“But back to reality—usually, we just rent a U-Haul or let a moving company handle it, and we certainly don’t close off the street,” he noted.
His video has garnered over 970,000 views, sparking curiosity about the oversized items being lifted.
Some viewers speculated that a hot tub was among the deliveries, while others suggested it might be a grand piano.
There were also inquiries regarding the financial side of these operations.
Using cranes for such large moves can come with a price tag exceeding $20,000 per day. To shut down a street, special permissions are necessary.
“Amazon Prime Delivery—it’s a billionaire’s subscription service,” joked one TikTok user.
“If we had $100 billion, we might all do the same,” another commenter said.
Bezos’ net worth is estimated to be around $223 billion. Between 2019 and 2021, he reportedly acquired several units in the former office building overlooking Madison Square Park.
