CeCe Winans Shares That God Used ‘American Idol’ to Share His Message

Cece Winans Shines on American Idol

Cece Winans, a celebrated figure in gospel music, has made recent appearances on American Idol, which some see as a sign that God is calling people to extend their reach beyond traditional church boundaries. Her performances on the popular ABC show, particularly noteworthy, included collaborations with Brandon Lake and other Christian artists in a special Easter-themed episode. Last year, Winans was part of a viral production of God’s Good alongside competitor Roman Collins, which garnered about 30 million views shortly after its release.

Winans, a 17-time Grammy Award winner, believes that God is opening up new avenues for her and fellow Christian artists. “The Lord continues to blow my heart away,” she shared at a press conference in Nashville last month. “The producers informed us that this was possible thanks to the support and last year’s overwhelming viewership. It feels like divine intervention.”

For a song featured in the Faith episode, Winans teamed up with Collins to perform Come Jesus Come. Recently, she also collaborated with country artist Cody Johnson on a new track.

Winans expressed her belief that these opportunities are meant to help reach more people within the broader community. “I think, really, it’s about reaching out to where people are. I’m humbled by this, but it feels like an important assignment,” she noted.

As the landscape of Christian music shifts, she mentioned proudly that there’s now greater acceptance, adding that this year alone, two songs from Christian artists made their way onto the Billboard Hot 100. “I’m starting to see the walls come down,” she remarked. “Having been in the industry for a while, I’m encouraged by what I see.”

Winans emphasized the necessity of support from the church community for Christian artists. “People often assume talent alone will get us somewhere,” she said. “But we really need prayers, encouragement, and support. It’s vital for us to collectively spread the music of faith.”
