Dakota Johnson Discusses Dating Preferences and Relationship Status
During an appearance on “Today” with Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson, 35, shared some insights related to dating while promoting their upcoming film, “The Materialist.” In this movie, Johnson portrays a professional matchmaker, and Evans plays her ex-boyfriend. As they chatted, host Craig Melvin posed a question about non-negotiable traits they would look for if they consulted a real matchmaker.
Evans, 43, replied that any potential partner must “love a dog,” which sounds pretty standard, right? But Johnson offered a more candid take. “Just make sure it’s not a —-,” she joked, eliciting laughs from the audience.
“That’s to the point,” Evans agreed with a grin. “Nailed it.”
Rumors Surrounding Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin
Meanwhile, Johnson seems to be navigating the dating world again after reportedly splitting from Chris Martin, with whom she had been in a relationship for about eight years. Speculation about their breakup ignited following comments she made in a June 4 interview with the Los Angeles Times. Johnson expressed some reflections on modern relationships, mentioning how they are often rushed. “When should people get married? Divorce is seen as a bad thing,” she remarked.
She continued, questioning societal expectations about marriage timelines. “Why do people feel they must marry or do it at a certain age?” she asked. “It really doesn’t matter.”
Later that day, sources informed People Magazine that Johnson and Martin’s on-and-off relationship may have come to an end for good. “I feel this time it’s final,” the insider noted.
Johnson and Martin began dating in 2017. Martin was previously married to Gwyneth Paltrow, with whom he shares two children. They had a “conscious uncoupling” in 2014, and their divorce finalized in 2016, though they remained on amicable terms.
In December 2020, rumors of their engagement surfaced when Johnson was seen wearing a noticeable emerald ring. A source later revealed that while they had indeed been engaged for some time, they weren’t rushing toward marriage.
Despite some recent rumors of a breakup resurfacing in August 2024, Johnson’s representatives denied them, stating, “The report is not true. They are happy together.” Sources echoed that their relationship has grown stronger, reflecting on the ups and downs they’ve experienced together.
In a past interview with Elle UK, Johnson had commented on her relationship with Martin, noting, “We’ve been together for quite some time. We go out occasionally, but we both work a lot, so it’s nice to enjoy our privacy.” When asked about maintaining a low-profile relationship, she quipped, “Most parties happen at my house.”
