House Republican starts fundraising committee for Iowa governor campaign

Randy Feenstra Moves Closer to Iowa Governor Race

On Wednesday, Iowa State Assemblyman Randy Feenstra took a significant step towards potentially running for governor. He formed a finance committee made up of 47 prominent donors and business leaders from the state, a development first reported by Fox News Digital.

In a statement, Feenstra expressed gratitude for the strong backing from Iowans. “We are thankful for the overwhelming support our campaign has received from Iowans who believe in our mission to take our mission to new heights,” he said. He added that the finance committee would help secure the resources necessary for success in the upcoming election.

While Feenstra has yet to make an official announcement about his gubernatorial candidacy, he has been taking steps in preparation for the election in 2026. He previously hinted at his interest in the role, especially after current Governor Kim Reynolds, who is a Republican, announced she wouldn’t seek a third term.

Feenstra has already set up the “Feenstra for Governor” organizing committee, although it’s uncertain when his formal campaign launch will occur. He is likely to face a crowded field of candidates vying for the open seat.

The finance committee includes notable figures such as Kurt Croel, a business owner who has contributed to both Reynolds and former President Donald Trump, and members of a local beer company’s ownership family. West Des Moines Mayor Russ Trimble is also on the committee, joined by executives from Nutratech, Andy and Russ Kosky.

Feenstra has served Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District since 2021 and has played a crucial role in the House as part of both the Agriculture and Ways and Means Committees.

In other related contests for the Iowa governorship, other Republican candidates include state legislator Eddie Andrews and former state representative Brad Sherman. The GOP primary is likely to intensify, particularly with Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird also announcing her candidacy.

On the Democratic side, candidates like Iowa Auditor Rob Sand and Julie Stauch, who was involved in Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 presidential bid, have declared their intentions to run.
