Clinton Critiques UFC Event at Trump’s White House, Faces Conservative Backlash
Hillary Clinton’s comments about a recent UFC event being held at the White House sparked strong reactions from conservatives. Many accused her of hypocrisy, recalling controversies from her time living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
After losing to Trump in 2016, Clinton initially questioned the UFC’s plans last month. On Sunday, she reiterated her stance, emphasizing that the White House shouldn’t be viewed as solely Trump’s residence. “[It’s] our home,” she stated, urging respect for its significance while promoting merchandise supporting various causes.
In a post that limited replies, she remarked, “Regardless of what happens in a cage match on the White House grounds today, this is not his home. It’s ours. Pick up a hat or a sticker that supports groups and candidates who value the integrity of the People’s House.”
Representative Tim Burchett from Tennessee was among those who criticized Clinton. He retweeted her comments, mocking her by referencing President Bill Clinton’s past indiscretions with Monica Lewinsky.
Burchett commented, “They rent out Lincoln’s bedroom and let’s not forget Bill’s behavior in the Oval Office. The damage done during your departure is well documented.”
Bill Clinton had famously denied having a sexual relationship with Lewinsky during a press conference in January 1998 amidst an investigation into unrelated issues.
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Buzz Patterson also weighed in, suggesting that Hillary Clinton bore responsibility for her husband’s nuclear codes during their time in office. He recalled, “I was in the Air Force, and I was close to the situation for two years.”
Patterson continued, pointing out contradictions in her stance on respect for the institution while her husband faced serious allegations related to his actions in office.
Echoing a similar sentiment, Tom Fitton from Judicial Watch criticized Clinton, stating, “The woman who took furniture from the White House has comments about ‘home.’”
As the UFC event garnered attention, Democrats and some media figures expressed outrage over the planned demolition of the East Wing to create a banquet hall as part of the preparations.
The official Republican Party account suggested Clinton simply “shut up” about the situation.
During her husband’s administration, there were allegations of damage to the White House, speculated to cost around $15,000, according to media reports of the time. Interestingly, the General Accounting Office concluded some of the reported damages were intentional acts.
Opinions were mixed over whether past actions truly compared to those of subsequent administrations, with supporters of Clinton arguing that the extent of damage wasn’t particularly unusual.
