The counselor at a prestigious Catholic boys’ school in Ohio was sentenced to prison after admitting to a sexual relationship with a student.
Emily Natley, 43, visibly emotional during her sentencing, requested probation after confessing to engaging in sexual acts with a 17-year-old student. However, a judge sentenced her to three years in prison on Tuesday, as reported by WLWT.
The married mother acknowledged her wrongdoing, stating there are “no excuses” for her actions, which included having sex in her office at St. Xavier High School. This is particularly disturbing given her role was to support at-risk students.
“I crossed a line I never thought I would,” Natley told the judge in Hamilton County Court.
“Every day, I reflect on how my actions have affected others. I’ve lost my husband, my house, and friends, causing embarrassment to my children,” she continued, noting she filed for divorce soon after the allegations came to light.
According to court documents obtained by WLWT, Natley had multiple sexual encounters with the student in her office. The victim described an incident during the fall 2023 semester where she threatened self-harm if he ended the relationship.
Natley’s husband, Jonathan, filed for divorce in October of last year, shortly after the scandal surfaced.
In court, it emerged that Natley had exchanged explicit messages with students and provided allowances and test answers to her victim. Prosecutors argued she targeted the most vulnerable individuals.
Defense attorneys portrayed her as a “broken woman” struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues, based on evaluations from medical professionals. Yet, Natley expressed she does not seek forgiveness, admitting, “I haven’t received that.”
The victim, who sought a 10-year sentence for Natley, shared how the experience altered his life dramatically. He stated, “I didn’t realize I was being manipulated at the time.” He also mentioned that at public events, people often shout her name at him.
Natley pleaded guilty in April to two counts of sexual battery, both severe felonies.
In addition to her prison sentence, she will serve five years of probation following her release and must register as a Tier III sex offender every 90 days for life.
