Kimmel Critiques Trump’s Response to Protests in LA

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel, speaking to audiences recently, clarified that there were “no riots outside” amid the protests in Los Angeles. He criticized President Trump for sending troops to the city to handle the demonstrations, which Trump labeled as destructive.

Over 700 Marines were deployed to Los Angeles to address the anti-ICE protests that had led to significant damage in parts of the city. Visuals captured blocked streets and damaged vehicles, raising concerns. In response, Mayor Karen Bass enforced a curfew in parts of downtown.

Kimmel found humor in the way the media portrayed these protests, describing them as “some sort of totalitarian hell.” He further condemned the Trump administration’s deportation policies that affected long-time residents.

The comedian remarked that the portrayal of anti-ICE protests as peaceful was questionable, pointing out the violence that had occurred, including injuries sustained by police officers.

“You won’t see this anywhere else on TV,” Kimmel joked. He alluded to the absurdity of mixing serious issues with a film premiere, adding that he was thankful for law enforcement efforts.

Expressing his frustration over the raids, Kimmel stated that many affected individuals were innocent. In his view, it was the right—and perhaps, the responsibility—of Los Angeles residents to protest against such actions.

“Los Angelenos united peacefully, by and large, to voice their opposition to this misuse of power,” he noted.

Continuing his remarks, Kimmel accused Trump of seeking conflict and being indifferent to the pain caused. He emphasized that the media had exaggerated the violence of the protests and attributed heightened fears to Trump’s military response.

“When something minor escalates, it draws cameras,” he lamented. “Trump seems intent on creating a sense of chaos.”
