DeMarcus Cousins Released from Puerto Rico Team After Fan Altercation

Former NBA player DeMarcus Cousins has been released from his Puerto Rican team following a confrontational incident with fans during a game this past Monday. The league, known as the Baroncesto Superior Nacional, announced on Tuesday that Cousins was removed from the Mets do Guainabo after making an obscene gesture toward the crowd. He reportedly grabbed his genitals and laughed as he flipped the middle finger at fans.

The situation escalated when Cousins grabbed the arm of a fan, leading to a physical confrontation. Another spectator, sitting courtside and witnessing the altercation, intervened to assist the first fan. As tensions mounted, Cousins was ejected from the game but not before he antagonized the audience while heading toward the tunnel, taunting them and provoking further outbursts.

As he exited, drinks and other objects were thrown at him by fans who were clearly agitated. A frustrated Cousins attempted to retaliate, but he was eventually held back to prevent further escalation. Following the incident, he faced a ban for the remainder of the season and a fine totaling $4,250, which could potentially rise to $10,000 depending on the circumstances presented by his team.

Cousins, who was drafted fifth overall in the 2010 NBA Draft after a standout career with the Kentucky Wildcats, last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season with the Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets. Over his eleven seasons, he earned the recognition of a four-time All-Star.

Since his last NBA game, he has participated in various leagues, including those operating in Mongolia and Puerto Rico, and even one associated with entertainer Ice Cube.
