Cuomo Gains Support from David Patterson

On Wednesday, Andrew Cuomo received a notable endorsement from his former peer, David Patterson.

Patterson expressed his support at an event attended by union members and Manhattan Democratic leader Keith Wright; he emphasized Cuomo as a leading candidate for the Democratic mayoral nomination.

The former governor, who held office from 2008 to 2010, referred to Cuomo as a “workable and wise candidate.”

Interestingly, Patterson seemed to criticize Democratic socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani, who is currently in second place in the polls. Mamdani has faced backlash from moderate Democrats due to his super-disposal policy.

“Do we engage in absurd extremes, make promises we cannot keep, and pledge hopes that we cannot fulfill?” Patterson questioned.

Wright, a former state legislator, also showed his support for Cuomo, highlighting the need for more affordable housing initiatives.

During the gathering at Amy Ruth’s soul food restaurant in Harlem, Patterson remarked, “Now when I look at the field, I can’t imagine anyone who can do it more than anyone who’s done it before.”

This endorsement comes after former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg also lent his support to Cuomo, praising his experience and leadership qualities.

Following the event, Cuomo took to social media to express gratitude for the endorsements. “I am honored to receive the approval of two men I have known and respected over the years, former governor and former state legislator Keith Wright,” he shared.
