Former President Bill Clinton raised eyebrows on social media after he was seen struggling ahead of a book event in New York City on Wednesday.
The 78-year-old Clinton had to grasp a pole to steady himself as he moved onto the sidewalk outside the 92NY Cultural Center. A video shared on X captured the moment.
It seems he stumbled, planting his left foot awkwardly on the pavement.
Interestingly, no one around him—neither the Secret Service agents nor others—seemed to notice his difficulty.
He then slowly walked to greet someone seeking an autograph, where his wife, Hillary, had already been signing items.
Clinton’s gait and overall appearance surprised many on social media.
“Bill can barely walk,” noted conservative columnist Buzz Patterson in a post.
“Bill Clinton doesn’t look very good,” commented another user from Texas.
Several users compared his health decline to that of former President Joe Biden, with one remarking, “Bill Clinton is starting to trip like Joe Biden.” Another expressed that Clinton seemed “very Biden-like—unstable and sleepy.”
One user pointed out that Clinton appeared to be in a “clear vulnerable state” while Hillary seemed to be moving ahead without concern.
Clinton is currently promoting a new book, “First Gentleman,” co-written with James Patterson.
He has faced a number of health challenges since leaving office in January 2001. For instance, last December, he developed a fever and was hospitalized for flu treatment, only being released on Christmas Eve.
In 2021, he was hospitalized for about a week after a urinary tract infection spread to his bloodstream.
Back in 2004, he underwent heart bypass surgery, described as routine, followed by another procedure in 2010 where two stents were inserted into a clogged artery.
On Wednesday night, he attended the event related to his new political thriller, “The First Gentleman.”
The book is described as a thrilling narrative that unfolds in a scenario where the U.S. elects its first female president while her husband faces murder charges.
