Hawley warns of subpoenas for organizations potentially financing anti-ICE protests

Investigation into Anti-ICE Riots Expanded by Sen. Josh Hawley

Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri has broadened his investigation into the financial backing of recent anti-ICE riots across the U.S. On Thursday, he indicated that he might issue subpoenas to at least three organizations involved.

Hawley mentioned he hasn’t received any replies from the groups under scrutiny, especially amid concerns that they could have supported the riots in Los Angeles. He stated in an interview that if the organizations don’t cooperate, he may proceed with asking for subpoenas.

Additonally, he expressed intentions to hold a hearing regarding the situation, emphasizing, “If it’s public and not transparent, it doesn’t make sense.”

In his communication with three left-leaning groups—Humanitarian Immigration Rights (Chirla), the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), and Union Del Barrio (UD)—Hawley demanded that they provide internal communications related to the protests, including funding and planning details.

He asserted, “This is not voluntary. The evidence is clear as riots are erupting in cities like Chicago and St. Louis. Someone is funding this, and we need to find out who.”

Hawley also insisted that the groups supply travel records, not just from their donor lists, but also concerning individuals affiliated with them who might have received reimbursements.

Chirla reportedly received $34 million from the Biden administration for previously allocated funds. The organization, which has come under criticism for its influence, is involved in creating the Rapid Response Network— a hotline for immigrants to report ICE raids and seek refuge during such events.

Former President Trump has contributed to the discussion, asserting that many of the individuals involved in the Los Angeles protests are not genuine activists but instead “professional agitators.” He further remarked, “They should be in prison.”
