Stranger saves 6-year-old drowning boy from the pool
A six-year-old boy named Oscar found himself in distress while swimming in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida, pool. As he slipped underwater, Loke Ivan Ocampo heard the urgent cries for help and jumped into action to save him.
Surveillance footage revealed Oscar trying to jump onto a pool float when he lost his balance and fell in. Panic ensued as adults nearby began yelling for assistance, seeing the boy struggle against the water.
Loke Ivan Ocampo was passing by when he heard the commotion. Without a moment’s hesitation, he took off his shoes and dove in to rescue Oscar.
Ocampo managed to grab the boy and start bringing him back to the surface. Another bystander lent a hand, helping to lift Oscar out of the water.
At a press conference, Ocampo recounted the moment he realized Oscar wasn’t breathing. He stated, “I began CPR. Kids weren’t breathing, but I kept going until he started.” Their efforts did not go unnoticed; police body cam footage later showed officers arriving to find Oscar breathing again.
The officers quickly took over, checking on Oscar’s condition and transporting him to emergency services. Thanks to Ocampo’s quick thinking, the boy survived the near-drowning incident.
Although the media referred to him as a hero, Ocampo humbly replied, “I don’t feel like a hero. I did what I had to do. I’m just grateful to have been able to help this child.”
