Mets Rally Behind Senga Amid Injury Concerns

Edwin Diaz and the Mets are showing their support for their star pitcher, Kodai Senga. After Senga experienced hamstring tightness during Thursday’s close 4-3 win over the Nationals, Diaz shared a touching message on social media.

“Senga has got your back,” Diaz noted, alongside a celebratory image of the Mets.

During the game, Senga was hurt while covering first base after attempting to field a ground ball in the sixth inning. He landed awkwardly after reaching for a high slow throw from Pete Alonso, which certainly wasn’t ideal.

As a result, the 32-year-old, who has a remarkable 1.47 ERA this season, is set to go on the injured list and will undergo an MRI on Friday, as reported by coach Carlos Mendoza.

Before the injury, Senga had held the Nationals to just one hit over 5 2/3 scoreless innings, securing the win for the Mets.

The Mets managed to fend off a scare from the Nationals, who mounted a ninth-inning rally. However, Diaz ensured the victory by directing groundouts with runners on second and third.

While losing top pitchers can be detrimental, the Mets are arguably in a better position to handle such setbacks compared to other teams. New York boasts the best record in the majors at 45-24, along with the lowest team ERA in baseball at 2.80.

Furthermore, pitchers Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea are also on their way back to the Mets’ rotation. Montas is scheduled to pitch in Triple-A Syracuse for one of his rehabilitation outings, while Manaea is slated for a rehab start on Sunday with a minor league affiliate.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the severity of Senga’s injury, the atmosphere in the Mets clubhouse remains optimistic, especially reflected in Diaz’s supportive message.
