Antonio Brown Warrant Issued in Miami-Dade
Miami-Dade County Police have issued a warrant for former NFL star Antonio Brown. This comes in connection with an incident at a celebrity boxing event in May.
The warrant outlines charges of attempted murder involving a firearm, with a bond set at $10,000. It also requests that Brown remain under house arrest throughout the upcoming trial. Police reportedly attempted to contact the 36-year-old athlete on Thursday evening but were unsuccessful. It’s not clear whether he has legal representation at this time.
The charges relate to events that occurred outside a boxing match in Miami’s Little Haiti area on May 16. According to reports, shots were fired near the venue shortly before midnight. An officer who worked security at the event claimed he had witnessed Brown being involved in a physical altercation with another individual when he heard the gunfire.
The warrant indicates that witnesses identified someone connected to Brown as the shooter. Investigators collected a shell casing and an empty gun holster at the crime scene. However, after questioning, Brown was not found in possession of any weapon. He was taken into police custody but was released a few hours later.
That same night, Brown took to social media, alleging that he had been “jumped” by individuals attempting to steal jewelry from him.
Miami police obtained video evidence appearing to show Brown engaging in a physical altercation and subsequently taking the guard’s firearm before rushing toward the individual who had struck him. Footage indicates that the victim ducked as shots were fired.
Authorities met with the alleged victim on May 21, who reported that Brown had chased him while holding a gun. The victim sought medical attention for his injuries at a local hospital. The warrant notes that Brown had left the scene before police arrived. The victim, who claims to have known Brown since 2022, later identified him in surveillance footage.
Brown was a standout player, being named All-Pro for four consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2017. However, various run-ins with law enforcement have significantly impacted his career trajectory. His last appearance in the NFL was in 2021, playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
