Investigation into Los Angeles Riots
Fox News Digital has learned that the House Oversight Committee is looking into the recent riots in Los Angeles and California’s handling of the situation.
Chairman James Komer from Kentucky, along with Rep. Clay Higgins, who heads the Law Enforcement Subcommittee, sent a letter on Friday to Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. They described the violence as a series of malicious acts against law enforcement, involving attacks with deadly weapons like rocks and Molotov cocktails.
According to the letter, “Attacks on law enforcement officials undermine the rule of law. Those responsible must face the consequences of their actions.”
Komer also accused Newsom and Bass of criticizing President Trump’s efforts to control the violence linked to the riots. He pointed out their support for local policies that impede collaboration between local police and federal immigration authorities, arguing that this complicates law enforcement efforts.
He urged for communications between Newsom and Bass regarding the protests, as well as any correspondence with law enforcement at various levels.
The riots escalated in response to the arrest of over 100 undocumented immigrants the previous weekend. In reaction, President Trump deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles despite objections from Newsom. Democrats have criticized this as an unnecessary escalation, while Trump’s supporters maintain it was essential for restoring order.
Komer expressed concern about the riots forcing law enforcement to use pepper spray and make numerous arrests, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
A recent ruling required Trump to relinquish control of the California State Guard, but this decision was quickly reversed by an appeals court.
While the focus remains on Los Angeles, protests against the Trump administration’s immigration policies have emerged nationwide.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Bass, Newsom, and the Department of Justice for their comments.
