National protests scheduled in over 800 cities opposing Trump parade on 'No Kings Day'

The “No Kings Day” protest series is set to take place in over 800 cities and towns this Saturday. This event is organized as a response to a planned military parade in Washington, D.C., commemorating President Trump’s 79th birthday and the 250th anniversary of the U.S. military. There’s a palpable sense of concern among public safety officials and citizens alike.

Organizers promote the demonstration as peaceful, yet many recall that recent protests have sometimes turned violent. For instance, a rally in Los Angeles escalated into chaos, with businesses damaged, flags burned, and injuries among law enforcement heightening tensions ahead of the upcoming protests.

Prioritizing Safety

Retired police sergeant Matthew Faguiana emphasized the heightened state of alert among police across the nation. He remarked on the critical importance of protecting both residents and property. “Safety encompasses everyone—protecting neighborhoods and businesses is paramount,” he stated. Furthermore, he noted that, in 2025, law enforcement agencies are expected to share intelligence more effectively, which appears promising.

Advice for Residents

Faguiana urged the community to stay aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activities. He advised people to follow local law enforcement on social media for updates on protest locations and safety measures. Parents are also encouraged to talk to their children about safety, particularly teens who might navigate public areas alone.

He also warned against interpreting a strong police presence as a threat. “Just because we’re here doesn’t mean we’re a problem,” he said, reinforcing that police support peaceful demonstrations, which are a cornerstone of democracy. However, any violent actions targeted at officers or properties will not be tolerated.

Lisa Gilbert, co-president of the civics organization behind the “No Kings” movement, insisted that their events would remain peaceful and focused on American needs. She criticized the Trump administration for militarizing politics rather than promoting unity. Their goal, she stated, is to direct attention away from the military parade and foster understanding through nonviolent means.

In a recent warning, Trump indicated that those who plan to protest against the parade should expect strong responses, referencing potential mobs that could interfere with the event. “They will encounter great force,” he asserted, identifying protestors as individuals harboring animosity toward the country.
