The Mavericks seem to be having a tough time keeping their plans under wraps.
It’s almost a given that Dallas is set to select Cooper Flag during the 2025 NBA Draft at Barclays Center on June 25.
However, the team hinted at their intentions a bit prematurely when a graphic celebrating Flag’s expected arrival was posted on their website—probably a slip-up by the web team.
According to Mavericks reporter Kevin Gray, a screenshot of the now-deleted video from the team’s site was shared, showing proof of this mix-up.
The site originally showcased “Welcome to Dallas” graphics and photos of Flag holding a Mavericks jersey.
Currently, if you head to mavs.com/2025-draft-pick, you’ll find a 404 error—it seems the page has vanished.
This blunder stirred up some lighthearted jokes on social media, especially given the Mavericks’ rocky recent seasons, which included criticism toward general manager Nico Harrison for trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers in what some deemed an overly generous package that included Anthony Davis.
Recently, the team did manage to bounce back in the play-in tournament.
One X user remarked, “Mavs are embarrassed about themselves,” referring to the graphic error.
Another chimed in, suggesting that “Nico seems ready to replace Cooper Flag,” hinting at the pressure surrounding the management.
If Dallas’s unexpected lottery luck leads to a surprising result on draft night, it could make for quite the story.
For now, Jason Kidd seems poised to lead a new chapter in Dallas, especially after declining the Knicks’ request to interview him for their coaching vacancy.
