Shedeur Sanders’ Unconventional Draft Journey
Shedeur Sanders, who many believed would be the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, surprisingly fell to the fifth round before being chosen by the Cleveland Browns.
Tim Green, a first-round selection for the Atlanta Falcons and a former teammate of Deion Sanders, expressed his pride in Shedeur’s resilience amidst this unexpected situation. He remarked on how Shedeur maintained a positive outlook despite the challenges he faced.
In a conversation relayed with an artificial intelligence-generated voice due to his ALS diagnosis in 2018, Green mentioned Shedeur’s gratitude expressed on social media, saying, “Thank you to God for everything.”
The quarterback competition for the Browns has kicked off as minicamps commence.
The team currently has five quarterbacks, but there’s no concrete starter. Deshaun Watson recently underwent surgery on the same tendon and then faced another setback with his Achilles injury. The Browns also acquired Kenny Pickett from the Eagles and signed Joe Flacco to a one-year deal prior to the Draft. Now, with Dilongabriel and Shedeur in the mix, it’s not clear who will earn the starting position.
Green reflected on the journey to the NFL, saying, “Sometimes I forget that my dreams could actually lead me here. Once you arrive, the draft position doesn’t define everything; it’s really about embracing the opportunity.” He added that he is looking forward to seeing Shedeur in action with the Browns.
Green, who played eight seasons with the Falcons, noted his enduring friendship with Deion Sanders, saying, “Deion is not just a former teammate; he’s a lifelong friend, an exceptional person, and a devoted father.” Over his football career, Green recorded significant stats with the Falcons, including 24 sacks and nine recovered fumbles.
