On Saturday, a multitude of celebrities gathered in the streets, joined by tens of thousands of predominantly white Americans participating in protests across major liberal cities.
Celebrities like Mark Ruffalo, Ellen Pompeo, Kelly Washington, Jimmy Kimmel, and John Cryer were spotted mixing with the general public in cities such as New York and Los Angeles.
For instance, actor Mark Ruffalo, known for his roles in Disney and Marvel films, took to the streets of New York City, joining fellow actress Susan Sarandon among the anti-Trump protesters.
“We are witnessing a president who has positioned himself as a king and a dictator,” Ruffalo expressed passionately during the rally.
The Avengers star continued, “There’s not enough strong opposition to push back against the violation of our rights and the constant undermining of our constitution through executive orders and immigration directives.”
It’s interesting, though—Ruffalo seems to overlook the fact that if Trump were truly a “dictator,” he probably wouldn’t have allowed someone like him to speak out freely.
Ellen Pompeo, known for her role in Grey’s Anatomy, lent her voice to the protests, suggesting at a cafe in Tribeca that America needs “more women” in leadership.
“The solution is simple—we need more women in leadership positions. So many men seem so angry. What’s that about? I honestly don’t know,” she said, pausing contemplatively. “We just have this amazing emotional intelligence that seems lacking in many of them.”
Kelly Washington also shared a moment on Instagram, showcasing her involvement in the Los Angeles protests alongside her mother and fellow actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Around the same time, several other notable figures joined the protests, including John Cryer, Lee Thompson, singer Gracie Abrams, and comedian Jimmy Kimmel, among others. Personalities like Ayo Edebiri, Gina Rodriguez, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Kathy Griffin, and Glenn Close shared their support for the rally through various social media platforms.
