Angel City FC Hosts Immigrant City Football Club Event
On Saturday night, Angel City FC, part of the National Women’s Football League, made a statement with T-shirts that declared “Immigrant City Football Club.” This initiative comes as part of a broader celebration of diversity within Los Angeles County, where the shirts were showcased last week.
The back of these T-shirts featured messages like “Los Angeles is for everyone” in both English and Spanish. Fans attending the match against North Carolina Courage at BMO Stadium received these shirts as well.
Unfortunately, Angel City FC faced a tough loss in the game, ending 2-1. Singer and club investor Becky G shared her feelings before the match, emphasizing the club’s commitment to inclusivity. “At Angel City, we believe in the power of belonging. Los Angeles thrives on its diversity; it’s the people and families here who give it strength,” she noted. “Football, as a sport, has roots in immigrant culture. This club exists because of immigrants. This is our home. This is LA—this immigrant city.”
Meanwhile, events in Los Angeles took a turbulent turn. Protests against ICE led to riots, with chaos erupting throughout the city. Self-driving cars were set ablaze, stores were looted, and law enforcement were engaged in clashes. The unrest persisted throughout the week, including during the “No Kings” protests on Saturday.
In light of these events, Angel City FC was quick to express their support for the community. They stated, “We are heartbroken by the fear and uncertainty that many in our Los Angeles community are feeling right now. We stand firm in our belief in the power of belonging, embracing our city’s rich diversity.”
