Celebrity Boxing Match Between John Locker and Patrick Mahomes Sr. Canceled

It seems that the highly anticipated boxing match between John Locker and Patrick Mahomes Sr. has officially been called off, for better or for worse.

The fight, which was originally set for April, faced a cancellation as confirmed by Barstool’s Dave Portnoy to TMZ Sports. “That fight won’t happen,” he stated bluntly. “Mahomes shut it down. Patrick was like, ‘Why is my dad fighting John Locker in Rough and Rowdy?’ So, he intervened and made sure it didn’t go forward.”

Previously, Portnoy had mentioned on The Fan Show that the bout fell apart due to intervention from Brittany, Patrick Mahomes II’s wife, and his representatives.

“From what I was told, the agents, Brittany—they were all against the fight. They didn’t think it was a good idea and made it clear that if it went ahead, they’d distance themselves,” Portnoy explained. “I mean, they really wanted this fight, but it was ultimately a clash between Locker and Mahomes Sr.”

Initially, the match was set to take place under Barstool’s “Rowdy” banner. Reports indicate that Mahomes Sr. signed a contract for the April event back in January, with court documents suggesting he would earn at least $85,000 from it.

This feud seemed to gain traction during Super Bowl week when Locker and Mahomes Sr. had a heated exchange in New Orleans. They even went back and forth on social media, right around the original fight date.

Locker tweeted on that fateful day, “Instead of fighting today, he retreated like a coward. His son and the loser’s wife thought it would look bad for him if he stepped into the ring,” adding some strong language to express his disappointment.

Despite Locker’s ongoing frustrations, Portnoy confirmed that there isn’t any chance the fight will be rescheduled.

Interestingly, both athletes last played professionally in 2003. Locker had a five-season run, primarily with the Atlanta Braves from 1998 to 2001. However, he often made headlines for his controversial remarks, which sometimes overshadowed his accomplishments on the field.

Mahomes, for his part, played in the majors from 1992 to 2003, with notable stints with teams like the Mets, Twins, Red Sox, and Rangers, though he also faced three DWI allegations over his career.
