The Trump organization announced on Monday that it will be launching a new mobile phone venture called Trump Mobile.
This move marks another business initiative during President Trump’s second term, raising various ethical questions from critics.
Donald Trump Jr., along with his brother Eric Trump, unveiled the initiative, coinciding with the anniversary of their father’s initial presidential announcement at Trump Tower in New York a decade ago.
Trump Jr. expressed that the mobile phone industry was entering a new phase characterized by a “lack of performance” and suggested there was an “opportunity to provide technology to an underserved audience.”
“In addition to Trump Mobile, we’re planning to introduce a complete package of products,” he noted.
At a press conference, he mentioned that customers would have access to “telehealth on the phone for a single monthly fee,” roadside assistance, and “unlimited texting in 100 countries worldwide.”
“I think we’re going to offer Americans something special,” Trump Jr. remarked.
While President Trump was in office, his children managed his business entities through the Trump organization.
Traditionally focused on real estate and hotels, Trump has been involved lately in tech-related ventures, ranging from social media platforms to cryptocurrency projects.
According to the announcement for Trump Mobile, it will provide 5G services through all major carriers, with its flagship offering linked to the 47 Plan.
This plan will be available to consumers for $47.45 a month, a nod to both the 47th president and the organization’s branding.
“Trump Mobile aims to change the landscape. We prioritize putting America first and delivering top-quality service,” Trump Jr. stated during the press conference. “We’re based in the U.S. because we believe our customers want and deserve that.”
The announcement also indicated that a new “TI phone” will be released in August, which is described as “a sophisticated gold smartphone designed for performance and proudly built in the U.S. for customers seeking the best in mobile services.”
Gold, of course, is often associated with President Trump’s branding.
With his children overseeing the business, Trump’s foray into mobile technology, especially with ties to the presidency, could spark criticism from those who perceive it as an attempt to monetize his time in office.
