Vandals damaged Spectrum fiber lines, leading to a major service interruption in LA.

A significant internet and cable outage occurred in the Los Angeles area on Father’s Day, with the provider Spectrum attributing the disruption to “criminal acts of vandalism.”

“We are currently addressing a fiber cut that is affecting the Los Angeles area and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” the company stated in an alert on X.

A spokesperson for Spectrum mentioned that they discovered the fiber line was severed Sunday morning due to vandalism in Van Nuys, impacting additional regions as well.

“Our fiber optic line was intentionally cut in Los Angeles,” the spokesperson explained.

This incident led to temporary service interruptions for some residents and businesses in Van Nuys and nearby areas. Services have been gradually restoring throughout the morning, with recovery efforts ongoing.

According to reports on downdetector.com, over 25,000 Spectrum users in the Los Angeles area began experiencing issues starting at 3 a.m.

Spectrum suggested that “criminal network vandalism has become a concerning issue affecting not just their services but the entire telecom industry.” They also indicated that they believe the rise in such incidents is largely due to increasing prices of precious metals.

“These acts are not only criminal but also disrupt services for customers, local businesses, and potentially emergency responders,” the company added.

Spectrum operates in 41 states, providing services to over 57 million homes and businesses.

They are collaborating with the Los Angeles Police Department and have announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with details about the vandalism is encouraged to reach out to Spectrum at 833-404-TIPS (8477) or local law enforcement.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
