Chicago Resident Criticizes State Sanctuary Policy
Kata Truss, a resident of Chicago, has expressed her dissatisfaction with the Democratic administration’s approach to Illinois’ sanctuary policy. She recently criticized Tom Homan, who contended that the government was obstructing efforts to safeguard illegal immigrants, suggesting that those individuals deserve to be protected within their communities.
“We’re alive,” Truss stated in an interview. “And let me tell you something, we’re not insensitive to the undocumented people here. We know it’s a struggle.”
Truss highlighted her concerns over taxpayer funds being directed towards illegal immigrants. She believes that while it’s not wrong for people to aspire to achieve the American dream, American citizens should have the opportunity to fulfill their own dreams too. “We chose officials who prefer to use money in ways that don’t benefit those of us paying taxes,” she remarked.
Truss has been notably critical of Chicago’s leadership throughout the ongoing immigration crisis that has intensified during the Biden administration. Interestingly, even as a Democrat, she has taken legal action against the city regarding housing for illegal immigrants, calling for the removal of its sanctuary status due to the strain it places on local resources.
Governor J.B. Pritzker recently defended his stance during an immigration hearing in Congress, asserting that he would rather be arrested than allow Homan’s policies to affect the residents of Illinois. Truss has argued that discontent among Chicagoans stems from the handling of the immigration situation and that many are frustrated with Democratic policies, especially if they didn’t vote in the last election.
“Even if you hear our mayor and the governor talk about how Chicagoans feel, we’re not happy about what’s happening here,” Truss stated earlier this year. She added that there was relief in having support from Trump and Homan in addressing what she perceives as a mismanaged crisis.
