Cindy Seni, known from the popular Netflix series “Jewish Matchmaking,” is now in a relationship and residing in Israel. She’s been vocal about her experiences, especially with the famous matchmaker Aleeza Ben Shalom. During her time in the Israeli Defense Forces amidst the Covid pandemic and recent events in Jerusalem, she’s lived through some significant historical moments.
“It’s been quite the experience,” Seni shared, reflecting on the ongoing challenges. “Every time we think we’re coping, it feels like the wounds re-open, and that’s tough.” As operations against Iran escalate, Israeli civilians are urged to stay in bomb shelters or secure areas for extended periods. This, she says, causes a lot of anxiety because it’s unclear how long these measures will last.
“Is it for a few hours or a whole night?” she pondered. “I feel fortunate to have a safe room in my home, but many don’t. They end up having to run into the streets with their children late at night. It’s incredibly stressful.” She admits that life in Israel has become fraught with anxiety, yet she also emphasizes the resilience of the Israeli people. She explained that Israelis continue their daily lives, not because they’re unafraid, but out of necessity. “They can’t afford to stop,” she remarks.
One person who has profoundly influenced her amidst this turmoil is her husband, Eldad Cohen. “He’s incredibly resilient. He’s faced so much,” she recalled, mentioning his military injuries and his upbringing during the second Intifada in Jerusalem.
Seni also finds solace in her online presence. Through her Instagram account, “Cindy and Israel,” she shares skits, photos, and personal anecdotes. “I started that to spread joy within the Jewish community, and it really took off,” she explained. “When the conflict escalated on October 7th, I encountered a surge of hatred and anti-Semitism, which pushed me to use my platform to highlight these issues and seek solutions.”
As the situation continues, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office reported that there have been 24 fatalities and over 800 injuries as a result of Iran’s retaliatory strikes, with thousands forced to evacuate their homes. Despite the grim circumstances, Seni holds onto her faith in Israeli security forces and a higher power. “I believe in God, so I trust we have His protection. I feel hopeful that everything will be okay,” she concluded.
