Dave Portnoy criticizes Stephen A. Smith over Solitaire issue while defending Caitlin Clark

Dave Portnoy recently took aim at Stephen A. Smith following a controversy during the NBA Finals.

Portnoy criticized Smith, who had been involved in a discussion about the star player Caitlin Clark’s role in stirring tension with rival Angel Reese during her college career. This came after Clark’s intense performance on the court after a recent victory for the Sun.

Smith’s remarks sparked a debate, particularly after he was filmed seemingly playing Solitaire on his phone during a game, which became a focal point for criticism. While Smith acknowledged the picture, he denied being distracted by a game.

Some viewers felt otherwise, with footage surfacing that appeared to show Smith engrossed in a card game while the game played out before him.

In response, Smith quipped about his multitasking abilities, seemingly unfazed by the backlash, and suggested that critics relax and enjoy the Finals.

Portnoy, known for his passionate commentary, didn’t hold back. He called out the WNBA for not penalizing Mabrey after an aggressive play against Clark, noting that her actions warranted a stronger response from the league.

In a heated exchange, he expressed his disbelief that Mabrey faced no repercussions for her actions, further emphasizing his support for Clark.

Smith, on the other hand, suggested that Clark’s past behavior contributed to the current animosity she faces now, recalling a specific instance when Clark taunted opponents during her college games.

He implied that such actions could lead to heightened rivalry, especially given how competitive the league and its players can be.

Meanwhile, Clark and her team have managed to secure victories since her return from injury, looking to continue that momentum against the Valkyries soon.
