Raccoon Family Rescued From Wood Stove in Colorado

A recent incident involving a raccoon family may raise questions about refund policies, perhaps? Police reported a charming video showing a family of raccoons being rescued from a wood stove in Colorado.

On May 19, animal control deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an unexpected tenant residing in an outdoor wood stove at a home. The homeowner opened the stove and discovered a mother raccoon along with her five kits, all covered in soot. The mother raccoon fled before the officer could even process the situation.

“When the stove door swung open, Mama Raccoon dashed up the chimney like she was in her own action film,” the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office noted.

The video captures the careful process of retrieving the abandoned babies and relocating them to safety. Each baby raccoon chirped adorably in protest of being taken from their temporary home, which the sheriff’s office humorously described as their “airbnb.”

“Oh my gosh,” one deputy exclaimed while lifting one of the soot-covered babies from the ashes. “You’re just so cute!” Another officer gave the little rascal a gentle rub on the head, marveling at its condition. One particularly sooty baby appeared somewhat resigned to its situation, waving awkwardly at the camera footage.

“Our officers carefully gathered the little, noisy fluff balls and placed them in a cozy spot just outside the house,” the sheriff added. It seems they found a quiet bush that would serve as their temporary home while they awaited their mother.

Although the kits squirmed a bit during the rescue, they eventually settled down in their new environment. “The babies were healthy and safe as we waited for Mom to return,” the sheriff’s office commented. “Just another day for the JCSO animal control team.”

This heartwarming rescue occurred in Golden, a small town nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountains, famously welcoming visitors with a friendly sign reading, “Howdy Everyone! Welcome to Golden, where the West lives.”
