Ezra Miller shares strange thoughts on their uncertain return to Hollywood

Ezra Miller recently shared a rare interview where they reflected on their return to Hollywood and their unexpected appearance at Cannes.

For the first time in two years, Miller walked the red carpet at the Saldeguna Festival in Cagliari, Italy. In a conversation with Italian media outlet Lo Speciale Giornale, they described their connection to recent projects as a “tentative reason.”

After facing several legal troubles in 2022, Miller also mentioned their brief moment at Cannes in May, where they dashed across the media line at the premiere of Lynne Ramsay’s film “Death, My Love.” They expressed admiration for Ramsay, saying, “I came to Cannes to support one of the world’s closest friends, and I think he’s one of the best living filmmakers,” referencing their prior collaboration on “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”

Miller shared that they are working on an unnamed film with Ramsay and noted, “That’s what I’ll do first.” They emphasized that writing has been a personal endeavor for them, stating, “I’ve written a lot because you can do it alone; it was friendly to me.” Despite the challenges of reentering the industry, they conveyed their willingness to support Ramsay, saying, “If you’ve been in the woods for three years, I wouldn’t recommend going directly to Cannes.” They remarked on the overwhelming presence of photographers and the peculiar characters at the festival.

Miller’s past has been marked by several arrests; notably, they faced accusations after two separate incidents in March 2022 at a karaoke bar in Hawaii, where they were charged with harassment. Subsequently, in a different incident at a private residence, they were accused of throwing a chair and attacking a woman. Additionally, allegations arose regarding inappropriate behavior toward minors, but ultimately, no charges were filed against them. Miller later expressed that they had been unfairly targeted.

In August 2022, there were claims about an unsafe living environment on a farm in Vermont, but Miller later clarified that their family had not resided there for months. Also during that time, they were involved in a burglary at a Vermont home, resulting in a guilty plea for trespassing and a year of probation.

Later that month, Miller issued an apology, stating that they were seeking treatment for complex mental health issues. They expressed the importance of taking responsibility for their actions, saying, “I want to be vigilant about my past actions and apologize to everyone.” Their dedication to returning to a healthy and productive life became evident during this period.

In the interview, Miller also shared their thoughts on personal struggles and the broader concepts of perception and self-awareness. They reflected, “When we experience those crucibles, if we could survive… we would have that ability only to see other people in their crucibles and reach them.” They seem to believe that this capacity to empathize is becoming increasingly rare in today’s world.

Ultimately, Miller conveyed a deep sense of gratitude for their relationships, particularly with Ramsay, and reflected on the complexities of navigating the film industry. They acknowledged past experiences while expressing hope for genuine connections in the future.
