Democrats Without Leadership After 2024 Election Defeat

Political Landscape Concerns from Veteran Strategist

Veteran Democratic strategist Patty Solis Doyle recently criticized former President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, labeling them as “leaderless” and “agenderless.” She expressed her frustrations regarding the White House’s attempts to obscure Biden’s apparent mental decline.

In a conversation with journalist Mark Halperin during a recent podcast, Solis Doyle reflected on her mixed feelings about being distanced from political activities. “I’ve never really felt happy not being there because I don’t exactly feel oppressed in the current political climate,” she mentioned.

She pointed out a significant issue within the party: a lack of clear leadership. “If your party occupies the White House, the president is the party’s leader. If you don’t hold the White House, then the last president becomes that leader,” she explained.

Right now, that leader is Biden, but she noted that he seems to be “completely off the radar.” This has left the party leaderless and, as she put it, “agendaless.” Solis Doyle voiced her concerns, saying, “We don’t have an alternative vision for the presidency in contrast to the Republicans, which worries me.”

Looking ahead to 2024, Solis Doyle pointed to the struggles of Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democrats, calling it a significant loss for the party. “Some people think, ‘Oh, it wasn’t a landslide,’ but in truth, Democrats have lost ground in nearly every county in America,” she stated.

As she ruminated on the 2024 elections, she admitted it was challenging to foresee the outcome. Reflecting on Biden’s mental fitness, she mentioned, “The ‘original sin’ was running candidates over 80 who didn’t communicate effectively.” While she acknowledged Harris’s commendable efforts during the campaign, she indicated that talk of her running again in 2028 is minimal.

“That’s how cookies collapse,” she commented, highlighting the ramifications of poor planning and decision-making within the party. Furthermore, she attributed Harris’s setbacks to a failure to distance herself from Biden’s circumstances.
