Karen Read's parents are no longer living in 'fear' after their well-known daughter was found not guilty of murdering her Boston police officer boyfriend.

The parents of Karen Reed express their ongoing fears regarding their daughter’s future after she was acquitted of killing her Boston police boyfriend, John O’Keefe. Bill and Janet Reed felt a wave of relief after the charges against her were dismissed. This situation stemmed from an incident in January 2022, where Karen reportedly struck O’Keefe with her Lexus while intoxicated, leading to his death outside a house party in Canton, Massachusetts.

Bill shared with WBZ-TV that when he came to terms with the verdict, the weight of uncertainty lifted, alleviating their worries about potentially losing Karen to incarceration. He noted he and his wife were unprepared for the severity of the potential consequences.

“We’ve always said we wouldn’t stray too far from our beliefs. We take it one day at a time,” Janet remarked.

On Wednesday, financial analysts acquitted Karen of drunk driving charges while avoiding more severe accusations like second-degree murder and manslaughter, marking the conclusion of a well-known trial. The first trial, which garnered considerable public interest, ended amidst controversy.

The grateful parents, who attended every day of court proceedings, commended Karen’s defense team, praising their 45-year-old daughter for her resilience and determination to pursue justice.

Bill reflected on the experience, stating, “She was dedicated, incredibly bright, and helped us navigate through this.” He further mentioned that the harsh comments from the public forced them into a more private life.

“We feel blessed, recognizing how fortunate we are,” he added.

While acknowledging the long-lasting impact of the trials on their family, the Reeds now turn their attention to finding a sense of normalcy. Janet expressed hope that Karen might channel her experiences into writing a book, noting her talent as a writer.

“She’s always been a wonderful writer,” Janet said, reminiscing, “I often thought she’d excel in journalism, especially if she had the resources.”
