Alex Swoyer Talks About Her Book 'Lawless Lawfare' That Analyzes the Use of Legal Tactics Against Trump

Discussion on Legal Cases Against Trump

Legal Affairs Reporter Alex Swyer recently joined Sirius XM’s Saturday Breitbart News to talk about her new book, Laws without Law: Tilt the Scale of Justice to Get Trump and Destroy Maga. The conversation delved into the various civil and criminal cases involving Trump.

Swyer, who has a background as a lawyer and previously reported for Breitbart, spoke with the show’s Washington Director, Matthew Boyle, following her book’s release on Tuesday. The book features interviews with notable figures like Donald Trump Jr., Lara Trump, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and it quickly became a top seller in the federal law category on Amazon.

During the discussion, Swyer expressed that her motivation stemmed from the “weaponization of government and weaponization of courts” throughout the 2024 campaign. Trump faced multiple legal challenges, including four criminal charges between April and August 2023, shortly after he began his bid for the presidency again in November 2022.

Swyer mentioned that she keeps in touch with a group of law school friends, and they discussed the lawsuits directed at Trump and his associates during the campaign. Interestingly, not all of them were Trump supporters; some were leaning towards Team DeSantis. Still, they agreed that the cases against Trump were significant.

“As both a lawyer and a reporter, I felt it was an abuse to witness the weaponization of these two fields, so I wrote a book about it,” Swyer explained. She analyzed the cases where Trump’s face is prominently featured, highlighting how accusations have persisted from his initial term to appeals in other cases, all while noting that the judges and prosecutors are aware of the implications their decisions carry, especially in terms of election outcomes.

Swyer also reflected on the problematic media coverage surrounding Trump. She noted that research by the Media Research Center revealed disparities in how different prosecutors and media outlets approach the cases. For instance, she pointed out the situation in Georgia where a Democrat was prosecuting the leading Republican candidate while running for reelection herself.

According to Swyer, the aim of the prosecutors appears to be to “silence the opposition and drain financially.” Although Trump was convicted in a business record case, he was sentenced to “unconditional discharge.” Swyer shared that despite the felony label, Trump Jr. indicated that his father wasn’t overly bothered by it.

Swyer also recounted a conversation with Lara Trump, who humorously anticipated that the mugshot her stepfather would take in Fulton County might reach iconic status, much like Elvis Presley.

Laws without Law is available on platforms like Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Swyer mentioned that she offers special acknowledgment to Breitbart in her book.
