Trump declares successful attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities

A potential misdirection seems to have been significant in the context of a recent announcement regarding Iran. Just days after stating that a decision about Iran would be made within the next two weeks, President Donald Trump revealed the U.S. carried out a successful attack on three key Iranian nuclear sites—Fordou, Natanz, and Esfahan—in a post on True Social.

On Saturday evening, Trump declared, “We have completed a very successful attack on three nuclear sites in Iran. All planes are currently outside of Iran’s airspace. A large number of bombs have been dropped on the primary site.” His announcement took many by surprise, particularly since it came shortly after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt mentioned during a press conference that Trump would make a decision regarding Iran within two weeks. She referenced negotiations with Iran and noted there could be a potential for dialogue.

Before the attack, six B-2 stealth bombers were confirmed to have been deployed from air force bases in Missouri to Guam, according to U.S. officials. Fox News National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin later commented that reports regarding the bombers were part of a “misleading bite” intended to suggest that Trump might have delayed his decision.

“The six B-2 bombers wouldn’t have reached Iran in time for the strike,” she noted during an appearance on Fox News. “So it’s likely there was also a contingent of B-1 bombers launched from Whiteman Air Base.” Interestingly, just earlier in the week, there were indications that Whiteman had issued a notice suggesting it would be closed for maintenance until a specific date in late June, which could hint at broader operational movements.

In his True Social post, Trump announced he would address the nation at 10 PM Eastern Time to discuss the military operations in Iran, framing it as a historic moment for America and its allies. He urged Iran to consider ending hostilities, expressing significant concern over the potential for further conflict.

This latest military action follows Israel’s earlier strikes against Iran, which had taken place after a prolonged period of stalled negotiations about Iran’s nuclear program. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had made it clear that these strikes were seen as necessary for Israel’s survival. If Iran hadn’t been curtailed, he expressed that they could have developed nuclear capabilities quite rapidly.

Overall, this string of events highlights a complex backdrop of diplomacy and military strategy in the region, with Trump pushing for a nuclear agreement with Iran even as tensions escalate. In a post on Monday, he lamented Iran’s failure to sign a deal, calling it a “waste of human life” and reiterated his stance that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons, urging evacuations in Tehran.
