Sen. Cotton Discusses Potential Iranian Reaction to Military Actions

On Sunday, Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) expressed on ABC’s “This Week” that the U.S. needs to be ready for the Iranian regime to respond to military strikes on their nuclear facilities.

The discussion included remarks about President Trump’s recent assessments of military successes against Iran’s nuclear program, with a noted tension surrounding the extent of the damage done.

Carl: The president called it an epic military success, claiming Iran’s nuclear program was essentially wiped out. What do you think? Vice President Vance implied it wasn’t entirely destroyed.

Cotton: I believe General Kain, the chairman of the Co-Chief of Staff, provided some insights, and, while we wait for a complete assessment of the combat damage, it’s clear that due to the president’s decisive action, Iran’s significant nuclear infrastructure has been severely impacted. The Iranian regime has instilled fear in Americans for 46 years, and for 25 years, U.S. presidents have been worried about their nuclear ambitions. However, they have been warned against that. President Trump took bold steps to ensure they wouldn’t achieve nuclear capability under his administration.

Carl: Given their history of sponsoring terrorist attacks, what should we be ready for in their response?

Cotton: Iran is likely preparing to retaliate. I’d like to echo the president’s warning to the Iranian supreme leader: if he targets Americans, the military response they’d see will dwarf what occurred last night. U.S. troops are present in the region, and Iran has targeted Americans globally, including attacks on U.S. Marines in Beirut and barracks in Saudi Arabia, not to mention embassies worldwide. For all we know, they could have sleeper cells positioned within the U.S., given the current administration’s lax border policies.

The threats posed by Iran are serious, and we need to take them seriously. President Trump prioritizes American safety. The Iranian leader must understand that he is dealing with a serious president. They now have a chance to pursue peace, dismantle the vestiges of their nuclear program, and ensure their survival. Importantly, we’re not aiming for their supreme leader, energy infrastructure, or other critical targets. It sends a message that there’s something valuable that neither the U.S. nor Israel has attacked yet. Iran needs to heed President Trump’s warnings.
