Cotton: Trump made a significant move to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon

Senate Chairman Tom Cotton Commends Trump’s Action in Iran

During an interview on ABC News “This Week,” Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) praised President Trump’s recent military strike targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, which occurred over the weekend.

When asked if he believed the strike effectively dismantled Iran’s nuclear program or just set it back, Cotton referenced comments from General Cain, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“It’s clear that the president’s decisive action has significantly impaired Iran’s vital nuclear infrastructure, something he’s aimed to address for the past decade if he believed Iran was moving toward developing nuclear weapons,” Cotton noted.

He expressed that Americans have been “fearless” in the face of Iranian threats for almost 50 years, pointing out that for a substantial part of that time, “the US president has been concerned about Iran obtaining nuclear capabilities but never took action.”

“Ultimately, President Trump acted firmly to ensure they wouldn’t achieve that during his term,” Cotton remarked.

On Saturday, Trump announced that the US had targeted three Iranian nuclear sites, urging Iran to quickly pursue peace or face further military actions.

“Iran’s major nuclear enrichment sites have been entirely destroyed. As a bully in the Middle East, Iran now needs to seek peace,” Trump stated in a nationwide address from the White House’s Eastern Room on Saturday evening.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegses and co-head Chancellor Dan Kane elaborated to reporters about the US strike that targeted three Iranian nuclear locations early Sunday.

The operation focused on sites situated in mountainous regions: Natanz, Esfahan, and Fordau. Reports indicated that six “bunker buster” bombs were released on Fordow, while over 20 Tomahawk missiles targeted the other two locations.

This military action placed the US directly in a position of potential retaliation from Iran, intensifying involvement in the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict that escalated after Israel’s airstrike on Iran on June 13.
