(Nexstar) – More than 800 Rite Aid stores are set for closure, as confirmed by recent court documents. This announcement follows ongoing efforts by Rite Aid to sell some of its stores and prescription records to other pharmacy chains, all part of its second bankruptcy filing.
The court documents released detailed 118 specific store closures in 11 states. Like previous announcements, these closures are pending court approval and could be contested.

However, there hasn’t been a specific timeline given for when these closures will take effect.
These announcements have been somewhat anticipated. Last month, Rite Aid sold nearly all of its 1,240 stores as part of the bankruptcy proceedings. Currently, Rite Aid is listing 1,204 stores on its website.
Other pharmacy chains are ready to step in and take over these locations. CVS, for instance, agreed to acquire 64 stores in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington during a bidding process held in May. The details surrounding this acquisition remain unclear, pending final approval. Additionally, Walgreens has also made arrangements with Rite Aid to acquire prescription files from several pharmacies across nine states.
