On Sunday, Mayor Adams enjoyed a hookah session at the vibrant Persian Lounge in Queens, mere hours after the U.S. conducted an airstrike in Iran.
The mayor was pictured sporting a cap labeled “Mayor Adams” and a polo shirt with his name embroidered, all while the atmosphere in Astoria was clouded with hookah smoke. He appeared to be in good company with his estranged friend, Winnie Greco, who was also present in the lounge, reveling under the soft purple lighting during a celebration that included a re-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
A spokesperson for Adams clarified that the visit was not intended as a response to the airstrikes, insisting he was unaware of who would be attending before the event.
“The Adams administration has reduced deficits to bolster small businesses in our city while investing in post-pandemic recovery,” the spokesperson noted.
They emphasized that New York City now has the highest number of small businesses recorded in its history, with one of the five businesses inaugurated at this event having begun during Adams’ tenure. According to the spokesman, the mayor is committed to attending numerous events that celebrate local businesses.
Interestingly, Adams’ visit coincided with the U.S. executing what President Trump characterized as a “monologious” strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Following the airstrike, Adams shared a message on X, mentioning he was “thinking about the large population of Persia.” He also stated, “Learning of the U.S. bombing of three Iranian sites. While awaiting details from federal partners, we ordered the NYPD to increase its presence on religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across the five districts.”
