American Brews Shine at 2025 World Beer Cup
The United States is home to some truly remarkable beers and ciders. This year’s World Beer Cup, often dubbed the “Beer Olympics,” saw American brews take home a majority of the top honors.
With 8,375 entries from 49 countries, the competition was fierce. An international panel of judges evaluated beers across 112 categories based on various factors like style, color, appearance, aroma, and flavor.
As for the winners, California stole the show, securing the highest number of medals, closely followed by Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. Texas rounded out the top five states.
This year’s event, held in May, featured 1,761 breweries and cideries. Competition director Chris Williams remarked, “The World Beer Cup Competition continues to showcase the global industry’s dedication to innovative craftsmanship, diverse flavors, and technical excellence.” He added that the 2025 winners exemplify the pinnacle of craft brewing and cider-making.
Notably, the Juicy Indian Pale Ale category had the highest number of entries, with the U.S. sweeping the medals. A brewery from Orange, California, notably clinched the gold.
Cider also made a splash this year, with Oregon breweries particularly standing out. Two Town Cider Houses from Corvallis won recognition across multiple categories, taking home six of the 15 total cider medals awarded globally, including three golds.
Overall, it seems the craft beer and cider scene in the U.S. is thriving, showcasing not just the creativity of brewers but also a commitment to quality. Exciting times ahead for enthusiasts!
