Tyrese Halliburton Injured in NBA Finals Game 7
Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Halliburton faced a severe setback during the NBA Finals Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. Reports indicate he suffered a torn Achilles tendon after slipping in the first quarter, which could sideline him for the entire 2025-26 season.
According to sources, Halliburton’s injury adds to the list of significant playoff injuries, with Boston Celtics’ Jason Tatum and Milwaukee Bucks’ Damian Lillard also dealing with Achilles issues. The Pacers confirmed that Halliburton would not return to the game due to the injury, as noted by his father, John, who communicated the nature of the injury to ESPN.
After the game, head coach Rick Carlisle expressed optimism, stating that while they lack complete medical information, he believes Halliburton will make a full recovery. “He’ll be back,” Carlisle said following a tough 103-91 defeat.
Interestingly, Halliburton had started the game strong, scoring nine points with three three-pointers before the injury occurred while he was driving against NBA Finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
It was evident Halliburton realized the severity of his injury when he slammed his fist onto the court in frustration, especially since he had been dealing with a calf issue leading up to the Finals.
Teammate TJ McConnell commented on Halliburton’s character, mentioning how he was there to comfort his teammates despite the loss. “Many of us were hurt from the loss and he was there comforting us, and that’s who Ty Halliburton is,” McConnell said. “He’s the best.”
Looking ahead, the Pacers have some tough decisions to make this offseason about their roster and whether they will make another championship push next season.
