Manhunt for Fugitive Linked to Hit-and-Run Incident

Authorities are searching for Tony Gebian Lopez Infante, a fugitive from Venezuela, who is suspected in a hit-and-run that left Zach Carach seriously injured on May 18 in Nashville. The 21-year-old Carach, the son of a retired police officer, was struck and has since been in a wheelchair for weeks due to the severity of his injuries. Reports suggest that Lopez Infante could potentially be hiding in the Bronx.

Following the incident, Lopez Infante has been the focus of an extensive manhunt. A national police group is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Joseph Occhipinti, the founder of the New Jersey-based National Police and Defense Foundation, emphasized the importance of bringing justice, expressing this in a statement made on social media. Occhipinti noted his personal connection to the case, mentioning how his mother, a retired officer, has a young son who gained fame for delivering donuts to police stations—a figure known as “Donut Boy.”

During the birthday celebration, Zach Carach was tragically hit by a damaged Mitsubishi Mirage. Two days after the incident, officers located the vehicle in a parking lot, confirming it had sustained damage consistent with a hit-and-run.

Zach’s mother, Sheena Carach, recounted the moment she realized what had happened. “It felt surreal,” she mentioned in an interview. “I was terrified, thinking I could lose my child.” The emotional impact was profound; she recalls running to her son and praying for his recovery.

According to officials from the Department of Homeland Security, Lopez Infante’s presence in the U.S. is concerning. He reportedly entered the country illegally and was released two weeks later, with a deportation order scheduled for September 2024. However, he failed to attend the scheduled meeting and remains at large after allegedly hitting Zach.

The Biden administration has faced criticism for its immigration policies, with some officials claiming that an open border contributes to such preventable crimes. This incident has drawn heightened attention to the issues of illegal immigration and public safety.

The Carach family has welcomed the offer of a reward for information on Lopez Infante, hoping it will lead to justice. Meanwhile, Tyler Carach, the “Donut Boy,” continues to inspire positive interactions between law enforcement and the community through his thoughtful gesture of delivering donuts to police departments across the country.
