ICE Arrests Alleged Gang Member in Connecticut

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has detained an undocumented immigrant in New Haven, Connecticut, who is accused of murdering Mexican law enforcement officials.

Orlando Diaz Sevada, nicknamed “El Resh,” was apprehended on June 12, 2025. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports that he is linked to the Los Pochos gang, associated with the Sinaloa cartel.

“Thanks to the diligent efforts of our ICE law enforcement and federal partners, this fugitive, who has committed serious crimes against Mexican authorities, is no longer on the streets,” a statement said.

Diaz Sevada allegedly entered the U.S. illegally in May 2024 and was deported twice by Border Patrol shortly after his entries. The circumstances of his return remain unclear, according to DHS sources.

Documents from the Attorney General’s Office in Tlaxcala, Mexico, show he is wanted for numerous murders.

In a related incident, the ICE alongside other federal teams conducted enforcement operations in Louisiana on June 17, where over 80 illegal immigrants, including several with criminal histories, were arrested.

New Haven, recognized as a sanctuary city, has drawn attention for its policies. Mayor Justin Elicker previously defended the city’s stance against federal funding cuts aimed at non-compliant municipalities, emphasizing the importance of community access to public services.

“New Haven is committed to ensuring all residents can seek assistance without fear,” Elicker stated earlier this year.

The arrest warrant for Diaz Sevada was issued just a month before he entered the United States.

The local government has expressed its support for the federal initiative to apprehend individuals involved in violent crimes, underscoring the collaboration aimed at ensuring public safety.
