Upcoming Film Features Small Town Rabbis
Mark Feuerstein, known for his roles in Royal Pains and The West Wing, is set to star in the film Guns and Moses. The story revolves around a rabbi who becomes armed after his community is violently attacked. This film also features Dermot Mulroney, Neal McDonough, and Jake Busey and is slated for release on July 18th.
“I stand in the Middle East with Israel,” Feuerstein remarked, as reported by Crosswalk.
His comments came shortly after U.S. forces targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities, with the intent of halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
“There’s a show of strength needed. As Benjamin Netanyahu said, pursuing peace is essential. Taking out Iran’s nuclear capabilities could ultimately lead to that,” Feuerstein expressed. He mentioned a conversation with a non-Jewish friend who shared a sense of relief now that Iran’s nuclear potential seems diminished.
Feuerstein has a personal stake in this topic. He experienced the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, where his family sought refuge in a safe room.
“My husband was holding the door shut against the Hamas attackers while our child used an iPad. By God’s grace, we survived, but many weren’t that fortunate,” he shared.
He emphasized that Guns and Moses transcends mere violence.
“Instead of just accepting hatred, the rabbi attempts to engage a neo-Nazi, sharing Jewish stories and our historical suffering,” he noted.
The film blends elements of mystery and societal reflection. Feuerstein described it as reminiscent of both Chinatown and I Was Chosen.
“The plot centers on a rabbi in a desert town facing anti-Semitism and murder. It starts off appearing to be a clear case of hate, but there’s more to uncover—who is really behind the killings?” he explained.
He pointed out a poignant line from the film, remarking, “In a time where social media pressures lead many to conform, this film highlights characters who think beyond themselves, focusing on the welfare of their community.”
