Smoke Seen from a Las Vegas Plane

An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing back at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas not long after taking off on Wednesday, June 25th, due to reported mechanical issues.

The aircraft, Flight 1665, had smoke and sparks coming from one of its engines, according to eyewitness accounts. Video footage shows dark smoke trailing behind the right engine, along with sparks falling out.

This flight was scheduled to depart from Las Vegas to Charlotte Douglas International Airport and had a total of 153 passengers and six crew members on board. The airline’s statement noted that the plane was able to taxi to the gate under its own power after landing. They expressed gratitude towards the professionalism of the crew for ensuring the passengers’ safety and helping them reach their destinations as quickly as possible.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported following the incident.

American Airlines indicated that the aircraft will undergo evaluation by their maintenance team, though specific details about the plane type were not provided initially. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the aircraft involved was an Airbus A321.

The FAA stated that they are aware of the situation and will investigate further into the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing.

It’s noteworthy that Harry Reid International Airport has undergone various name changes over the years, previously being known as McCarran International Airport.
