Investigation into Migrant Identity Theft Results in ICE Workplace Raid in North Carolina

ICE Raid at North Carolina Factory Linked to Identity Theft

An investigation into identity theft triggered an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid at a fire equipment factory in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, on Wednesday. Local reports indicate that the operation resulted in at least 30 arrests.

Special Agents from ICE Homeland Security Investigation conducted this workplace enforcement action at Buckeye’s fire equipment company. The raid stemmed from allegations related to identity theft.

ICE reported to Queen City News that the factory visit was part of a broader inquiry into identity theft and related offenses. One spokesperson emphasized the seriousness of identity theft, stating, “You should take it seriously. It’s a federal crime when someone else is using your identity for their benefit.” They also mentioned that while about 30 individuals were detained, this number might rise as the investigation progresses.

Reports confirm that the number of individuals in custody is currently at least 30, and officials anticipate that it could grow as further investigations unfold.

According to a local NBC affiliate, agents executed a criminal search warrant that dealt with identity theft claims allegedly allowing unauthorized individuals to work in the U.S.

ICE spokesperson Williams mentioned to WCNC that these allegations involve employers using fraudulent or incorrect documents to facilitate unauthorized work. They have not disclosed if any employers are subjects of the ongoing investigation.

As of now, ICE representatives have not provided additional details regarding their operations in North Carolina, and responses were not available by the time of this report.
