Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) was asked whether he would support Democrat Eric Adams for the New York City mayoralty, but he didn’t give a clear answer, instead accusing the person asking of harassment.
A tense interaction unfolded after socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary, raising questions about the party’s future. Instead of discussing the matter, Suozzi oddly pretended to film the exchange, asking the tracker who they were “working” for, despite not actually recording anything with his phone.
As the tracker approached him, Suozzi stated, “Now that Socialists have won the Mayoral Democratic primary.” Before the question was finished, Suozzi pulled out his phone, appearing to aim it at the tracker. However, closer inspection revealed the phone had not been recording, as there were no indicators showing that a video was being captured.
Frustrated, Suozzi exclaimed, “I swear you guys are always harassing me. Who do you work for?”
When the tracker tried to continue with questions, Suozzi interrupted, repeatedly asking, “Are you a journalist?” and accusing the group of harassment.
The tracker pressed him about supporting Eric Adams following Mamdani’s victory, but Suozzi avoided a straightforward answer, asserting, “You’re harassing me.” He claimed, “There are three people here. You all work together. You harass me regularly.”
When reminded of his endorsement of former Governor Andrew Cuomo, Suozzi replied, “I’m always in the newspaper. I’ve come out again. You know this kind of thing.” The tracker asked, “Would you support Eric Adams?”
Suozzi dismissed him, saying, “You are not a member of my family. You are not a journalist. Please stop harassing me.”
As the encounter drew to a close, the tracker pointed out, “You are a member of Congress. Many people want to know where you stand.” Suozzi responded, “I’m public. Please read my Twitter page.”
Before leaving, the tracker offered one last chance for a response, but Suozzi chose not to reply.
