Idaho murder trial rescheduled with new dates revealed

Trial Delayed for Idaho Murder Suspect

The trial of Brian Coberger, accused of fatally stabbing four University of Idaho students, has been postponed for a week, as noted in a revised scheduling document filed in Idaho’s 4th Judicial District Court.

According to the updated order issued on Thursday, jury selection is now slated to begin on August 4, with the trial expected to officially commence on August 18, which is a week later than initially planned.

This change replaces the previously scheduled start date of August 4, moving the beginning of the trial for an undisclosed case involving the court and legal representatives to a period between July 28 and August 1.

“State v. Kohberger” was the title on the new scheduling order, which finally sets the new dates for jury selection and the trial to proceed.

Nate Poppino, a spokesperson for the Idaho court, confirmed to Fox News Digital that the timeline shift was due to adjustments in court scheduling, not an attempt to delay proceedings.

Poppino also mentioned that the court realized additional time was needed to select a jury and plans to stick to the August 4 date for the jury process.

The expected murder trial for Coberger, who is facing first-degree murder charges, has seen delays since his arrest in December 2022. Initially, he had waived his right to a speedy preliminary hearing, but later expedited the process earlier this year. Since then, his defense has filed several pretrial motions, including requests to move the trial due to media attention.

Coberger is charged with the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin in November 2022. He has pled not guilty and could face the death penalty if convicted.

As of now, the court has not provided a timeline for how long the trial might last, simply stating that it will continue “until completion.”
