A recent poll released on Friday indicates that President Trump’s approval rating is below water, with many voters believing the nation is heading in the wrong direction.
The Emerson College survey reveals that 45% of participants approved of Trump’s performance, while 46% disapproved. Nearly 9% expressed neutrality or no opinion regarding his presidency.
Since taking office, Trump’s approval rating has seen a decline. In an earlier Emerson survey from January, his approval stood at 49%, and disapproval was at 41%. By April, these figures had settled at 45% for both approval and disapproval.
This latest poll found that about 53% of respondents think the country is on the wrong track, contrasting with nearly 48% who feel the U.S. is moving in the right direction.
With the midterm elections still more than a year out, there remains an opportunity for Trump and the Republicans to bolster support among voters. However, the latest polls indicate that the party might need to take action to regain lost supporters, particularly during a typical midterm cycle where the president’s party often faces challenges.
The Emerson poll also showed that Republicans have a slight edge in the overall Congressional voting, with Democrats at nearly 43% and Republicans at 40%. Another 18% of respondents were undecided.
As we look ahead to next year’s midterm elections, Democrats appear to have a slight lead, drawing 37% compared to 27% for Democratic candidates, but it’s worth noting that a significant 36% of independents remain undecided.
Despite these challenges, Republicans are still expected to keep a majority in the Senate next year, while Democrats see a promising chance to gain control in the House.
The Emerson College Polling Survey was conducted from June 24th to June 25th, involving 1,000 registered voters, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
