Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ defense presents final statement in sex trafficking case

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' defense presents final statement in sex trafficking case

Closing Arguments Begin in Diddy’s Trial

The defense team for Sean “Diddy” Combs wrapped up their arguments on Friday as the highly publicized trial regarding allegations of sex trafficking and assault neared its conclusion. Mark Agnifilo, Diddy’s lawyer, criticized the prosecution, claiming they initiated a “fake trial” that intruded into the rapper’s “private sex life.”

Agnifilo stated that none of the witnesses called by the prosecution had been involved in any assault. He asserted that former employees of Combs, who testified against him, are motivated by their own interests, suggesting that it was like “going to Harvard Business School.”

“This is a fake trial,” Agnifilo told the judge, maintaining that the prosecution had failed to establish a credible case of assault.

During his statements, Agnifilo pointed out instances from the rapper’s home, referring to items such as astroglide and baby oil, arguing that there was nothing criminal connected to Diddy’s personal life.

“Where’s the crime scene?” he asked. “It’s all about your personal sex life.”

The defense argued that the trial was fundamentally about financial motives, stemming from a lawsuit filed by Combs’ ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, who sought $30 million from him. Agnifilo claimed that Cassie’s motivations were purely monetary, stating, “We’re here for the money.”

Before concluding, Diddy made an entry into the courtroom in a beige sweater, acknowledging supporters with waves and gestures. Once seated, he shared an embrace with his attorney.

The start of the proceedings was slightly delayed due to transportation issues for a jury member. While waiting, Diddy was seen making a prayer gesture.

For the final stages of their argument, Diddy’s defense team planned to reference the ongoing Iranian conflict but met resistance from the government. Agnifilo expressed concerns about focusing on politically sensitive topics, hoping to avoid any disruptions during the trial’s closing arguments.

During the final prosecution arguments, they explained how the trial’s testimonies supported multiple counts of serious charges, including sex trafficking. Prosecutors claimed that Diddy operated criminal enterprises and highlighted evidence such as testimonies, text messages, and audio recordings indicating a long history of wrongdoing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Slavik emphasized, “It’s stopped now,” asserting that the rapper could no longer evade accountability due to his wealth and influence.
