Noem supports self-deportation after being sent home on an ICE flight

Kristi Noem’s Plane Incident in Guatemala

Kristi Noem’s executive director faced issues while boarding a plane from Guatemala on Thursday, leading her to switch to a flight arranged by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

ICE had been implementing deportation flights to Central American nations, as the administration intensified its efforts to remove undocumented individuals from the U.S. “We had some issues with plane boarding from Guatemala. Luckily, a flight from ICE bringing back undocumented individuals had just arrived at the same tarmac,” Noem noted.

The secretary took this chance to motivate individuals to consider self-reporting before potentially facing detention or legal issues. For those without any criminal records, there’s an offer of free travel outside the U.S. plus $1,000. Additionally, individuals who opt to self-report may have any fines dismissed if applicable.

“We managed to get back to America on an ICE flight—quite a significant operation,” she added.

Details on the ICE Flight

The Department of Homeland Security indicated that the flight included individuals convicted of serious offenses like drug trafficking and assault. This flight departed from Alexandria, Louisiana, and landed in Guatemala at 1:30 PM.

Noem has been engaged in discussions across various Central American countries and mentioned that Honduras and Guatemala might accept asylum seekers as part of ongoing negotiations. “Honduras and Guatemala will now start giving refugee status to those individuals starting today,” she asserted.

In addition, the U.S. and Honduras have reached a “statement of intent” regarding biometric cooperation. This partnership aims to enhance their abilities to detect criminals and terrorists attempting to cross the borders.

“This agreement strengthens our efforts against illegal migration, allowing both Honduras and the U.S. to better identify threats,” she stated in an announcement on social media.
